2024 will be remembered for being the year with the lowest number of classic films watched since I started this blog.

But more than that ... it will be remembered for being the year that I lost my mum. She sadly passed away in December, almost two weeks before Christmas. Though I stopped giving life updates on this blog, I wanted to share this very sad news. Also because she and my dad passed on their love for classic films to us, and if it weren't for them, then probably this blog wouldn't even exist. (You can read about it in my post The Films from My Youth.)

Without further delay .... here is my 2024 round-up!

Unfortunately Letterboxd HQ stopped sending me year-in-review stats, so some of the stats at the top of this post get a big question mark.

Since I've seen very few films this year (only 45!), it's easy for me to find out who is my most watched actor/actress. I've seen 7 Greer Garson films in March and I think it's safe to say no other actor can top that number. So congrats, Miss Garson!

Of the 45 films watched, 43 were new to me and 2 were rewatches (White Christmas and North by Northwest).

Greer Garson, Most Watched Actress

2024 didn't have a round-up for every month because I didn't see a classic film every month. The year started with 0 classic films watched in January, and February had a round-up post of only 5 films. There was a small revival in the two following months: March with 20 films and April with 10. I didn't watch any classics in May, and June had a small number of 5 films watched. There were 0 films for July, August and September. Then I decided to do a joint round-up post for October - December. I watched 1 film in October, 1 in November and 3 in December.

The 1930s registered 17 watched films and emerged as the winning decade again. It makes sense because it's my fave decade for classic films. The 1940s registered 14 watched films, followed by the 1950s with 9 titles and the 1920s with 3 titles. Both the 1910s and 1960s registered 1 watched film and the 1900s registered none.

I did not write any additional posts this year. I have no idea when I will feel like doing extra posts again.

I want to keep this blog alive and keep watching the classics but at this point I'm addicted to Asian drama (Korean, Chinese, Japanese) and I basically stopped watching anything else. (I blog about K-drama and the occasional C-drama/J-drama here.) That having said .... though I can't make any predictions or promises, I will at least make an effort to watch some classics in 2025. I might even surprise myself.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Cheers!

North by Northwest with Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint
